Post doctorate positions: We are seeking for an experienced and self-motivated post doctoral fellow to work on the optical spectroscopy of semiconductor nanostructures. You should have a PhD in physics or engineering and a profound knowledge of semiconductor physics and experience with ultrafast spectroscopy and microscopy. Experience in programming and theoretical simulations would be an advantage. Also hardware interfacing, data acquisition and analysis with C/C++ or other is required. Semiconductor microcavities are a new breed of optoelectronic device in which light and matter combine to create exciton-polaritons, unusual quasi-particles with fascinating properties.  The bosonic nature of polaritons and the unique characteristics of the microcavity have allowed demonstrations of Bose condensation, superfluidity and lasing in the solid state.  One aspect of this field with huge potential is the exploitation of polariton spin for use in spintronic devices.  The successful candidate will use a range of optical spectroscopy techniques to study the spin properties of exciton-polaritons in semiconductor microcavities.  Previous experience with pulsed laser systems, optical spectroscopy techniques and cryogenics is desirable. Please provide the reasons you would like to join our group and your academic CV.   

PhD positions for UK/EU candidates (who have spent the last three years in the UK):
PhD position in green photonics (Energy)
We study hybrid systems inspired by naturally-occurring biological-nanostructures that use energy transfer and recycling to transform light into chemical energy. Using ultrafast spectroscopic techniques we investigate alternative ways of removing carriers from efficient light absorbing materials of low carrier mobility, such as organic semiconductors and nanocrystal quantum dots, and transferring them into single crystal inorganic semiconductors with high carrier mobility. We recently demonstrated record exciton transfer efficiency of 65% and by implementing novel technologies developed in our group in excitonic solar cells we have achieved a threefold enhancement of the photocurrent conversion efficiency of a single junction photovoltaic device. The successful candidate will use a range of optical spectroscopy and nanofabrication techniques to incorprorate exciton energy transfer in Si solar cells. Previous experience with pulsed laser systems, optical spectroscopy techniques and nanofabrication is desirable. Please provide the reasons you would like to join our group and your academic CV.
